Custom Homes. Personal. Handcrafted

  • Est. 2012

The Morgan family, going all the way back to the 1800s, has a strong history of working together as a family. The most recent family business from the Morgan line is Morgan & Son Homes, established in 2012, just as the country was recovering from the Great Recession. Joe Morgan is Founder and President, and his son Matthew Morgan is Vice-President.
  • Located in Smyrna, Tennessee

Morgan & Son Homes builds single-family residential homes throughout middle Tennessee.
  • Philosophy

The company’s business philosophy is grounded in the core beliefs and experience of its leaders: quality craftsmanship, taking pride in good work, and treating others as they want to be treated. Morgan & Son Homes is not a mass-market builder; in fact, company puts “all of the extras” in its homes “on the front end,” according to Founder and President Joe Morgan. Granite, hardwood, tile, stylish fixtures and trending colors are standard in a home by Morgan & Son Homes.
  • Family History

Both Joe and Matthew Morgan’s roots run deep. Their company logo was inspired by a coin developed by Joe’s grandfather, who was born in 1888 and was one of the first five settlers in the Antioch community, a part of Nashville. The Morgan family originally owned land in Antioch, worked as produce and animal farmers, raising food for the community. The family operated a sawmill on the farm, and sold lumber so settlers could build their homes and barns. Because the family’s primary income was produce, they hired extra workers every growing season to pick beans, tomatoes and berries. The person who picked the most every day was awarded a special coin that could be redeemed for something extra, a gallon, bushel or peck of berries, green beans or other food items for their families.
  • Today

The Morgan family, through Morgan & Son Homes, always gives something extra to its clients. From the personal, handcrafted additions for each home developed by Matthew Morgan, to the extra time and care Joe Morgan takes to make sure each family knows he and Matthew will stand behind their work, clients walk away from the closing table and into their new homes with the sure knowledge they have purchased a quality, well-built and beautiful home for their families.

Meet our Team.

Joe Morgan

Joe Morgan, President and CEO, was born in middle Tennessee, and grew up on his grandfather’s produce farm, learning that work as a young boy. As a teenager, Joe worked for several of his dad’s friends after school and on weekends, and learned trade skills like masonry, roofing, framing, plumbing and electrical. After graduating from Antioch High School, Joe spent several years in the printing business, working with his dad, who was a master printer. He then began work for a custom homebuilder, Lang Engineering & Environmental, in Brentwood, Tenn. Weekends, he worked on his own part-time, remodeling kitchens and baths. Within a few years, Joe joined Bridgestone Tire Manufacturing in La Vergne, Tenn., and spent 11 years there while continuing to farm and operate his remodeling business. In 1999, he joined Crossman Communities, the 16th largest homebuilder in the nation, as purchasing manager for its Nashville division. In 2000, Joe joined Ole South Properties, a residential homebuilding company, and remained with them, starting and growing the company’s Clarksville division. In 2012, Joe decided to start his own business, and founded Morgan & Sons Homes to create a legacy for his son, Matthew, and grandsons Ryland and Easton. Joe Morgan knows how to work hard, and he learned the craft of building a solid home from the ground up. His business bears his own name, and Joe stands behind every home he builds. While Joe focuses on the administrative side of Morgan & Son Homes, he always makes sure to sit down with every client at closing to ensure they are very satisfied and fully understand the warranty the company provides. Besides enjoying golf and fishing, Joe’s free time is spent with his grandsons and family. Recently, he welcomed his 82-year-old mother into his home, to help care for her.

The Golden Rule has always been a big factor in my life. I treat everybody just the way I want to be treated. I really enjoy helping people out. A lot of people have given me opportunities, and I believe in repaying that and giving others opportunities in turn.

Matthew Morgan

Matthew Morgan is Vice President for Morgan & Son Homes. Like his dad Joe, Matthew is a native middle Tennessean and a graduate of La Vergne High School. After playing football at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tenn., Matthew transferred to Middle Tennessee State University and started a landscaping business that he owned and operated for seven years. In 2012, he joined his father at Morgan & Son Homes. Matthew not only manages the daily work on each Morgan & Son Homes, he also works with each homebuyer personally, all the way through the homebuilding process from sitting down to determine each client’s wants and needs to completing a detailed two- to three-hour walkthrough before turning over the keys when the home is complete. Matthew also personally builds and crafts personal touches in each home the company builds, from custom mantels, fireplace surrounds and shiplap, to cedar shutters. He takes pride in true craftsmanship and adding a personal, custom touch for each home the company builds. Matthew is married to Amanda Morgan, who works for Morgan & Son Homes as the company’s real estate agent. They have two sons: Ryland, age 8, and Easton, age 4. They are currently building their own home.

We truly build each of our homes as if it’s our own home. We focus on the little things, and take pride in our careful work and attention to detail. On each walk-through, my goal is to for each of our homebuyers to feel 100 percent comfortable when they leave. I make sure every question is answered and they have all of my direct contact information for any issues that may arise.
